Espresso is a Costly Affair

Few things are more enjoyable (ore more necessary) in the
morning than a strong espresso to kick-start your day. Out
society is without doubt coffee-obsessed, with an
astonishing 79 percent of people over the age of eighteen
drinking at least one cup of joe on a daily basis. It is
no surprise coffee houses have been popping up on every
corner and the airwaves are inundated with coffee related
advertisements. But what exactly is this coffee craze
actually costing? The answer to that question may be quite
shocking and may make you want to rethink your purchasing
habits when it comes to the rich beverage.
Since 1999, approximately 110 million American have begun
drinking coffee on a daily basis. Additionally, coffee
drinkers are now drinking a greater volume of coffee as
sizes keep expanding. It is no surprise that coffee houses
dot much of America~s landscape and even gas stations and
fast food chains have jumped on the specialty coffee chains.
Instead of pulling into a truck stop to enjoy a cup of
coffee with the consistency of a mud hole, you are now able
to purchase everything from espressos to lattes while you
pump your gas.
Sturbucks is a leader in the coffee market. It is said to
have made a profit of 70 million dollars in the fourth
quarter of 2004. This sounds incredible. But if you
calculate how much you spend on coffee you will understand
it's not such an unrealistic figure, after all.
A small cup of espresso in a standard coffee shop costs
nearly two and a half dollars. In five days you drink
coffee worth twelve and a half dollars. Multiply that with
fifty two weeks and you get the sum of $625 in a year, if
you drink coffee only five days a week. If you drink coffee
every day of the week then you are spending $910 on coffee.
If your partner also keeps you company then you are
spending a whopping amount of $2000 on coffee every year.
Imagine what all you could have done with that amount! Look
at your budget honestly and ask yourself can you really
afford to be so extravagant. There are things you've been
wanting to do but just did not have the money for them. For
instance, going on a vacation, perhaps, or saving for your
child's college education, or for your own old age. Can you
really afford to sacrifice your future for this expensive
drink?
Not willing to quit coffee cold-turkey? Try cutting back
to buying it once or twice a week or switching to a plain
Jane brew. Still aching for an espresso, purchase a
machine and make your own at home. For an initial
investment, you will be able to make quality espressos
just like the professionals without the steep costs.
However you decide to curb your coffee costs, think about
the reward. Set a goal and begin saving your coffee cash
and at the end of the day, you will be glad to curb your
coffee cravings.
