Owning Your Own Business

As more and more people surf the Internet each day, it~s
opened many opportunities for people ~ one of which is an
option for working for yourself and using the Internet to
help make your business a success. Many people think the
Internet is only beneficial to the ~dot-commers~ and
companies that feature banner ads. In reality the Internet
is a great option to support an existing brick and mortar
business. Many business owners are choosing to use the
internet to sell real goods as well as digital goods.
There are many ways to go about making money on the
Internet, and in this article we will take a look at a few
of the ways regular people like you and myself can cash
in on the power of this global information network and
~monetize~ (to steal a term from the so called dot-com
bubble nomenclature) this powerful new business tool.
One area that has seen enormous growth with no sign of
slowing down is the outsourcing business. There are
many sites out there such as eLance and ScriptLance
that provide the backbone for a burgeoning cottage
industry. Everyday folks with myriad talents are
signing up to monetize (there~s that word again) their
unique skill sets by advertising their services using
these systems. Freelancers can shop through posted
projects and bid on them much like service bureaus do
in the ~real~ world. Individuals and companies that
have projects that need to be completed in the most
time and cost effective manner possible benefit from
the fact that they have access to a worldwide virtual
service bureau and freelancers benefit from the sheer
volume and diversity of the work that there is to choose
from on these networks. It would seem that, for the
most part, this is a ~win-win~ situation for everyone
involved.
There are other unique opportunities for profitable
businesses through the Internet ~ one such service is eBay.
Sites like eBay provide a global marketplace for
entrepreneurs ~ many people started their business as mere
hobbies and have seen their hobby grow to successful
business. Some people use the Internet as a tool to market
their business. Many people start with a craft or art (for
instance, soap or candle making) and before they know it
their product is flying out the door. Other people
specialize in their business ~ selling first edition books,
computer good, electronics, etc. The Internet allows
business people to start with a minimal investment and a
lot of hard work to create a successful international
effort.
With a little creativity and a desire to free yourself of
the corporate ladder that many of us refused to be
bound by, you will find that the Internet is an excellent
resource for the budding entrepreneur of any business
background.
