VISITING ALASKA

When many people think of Alaska, they vision a vast
cold land with Walruses, Whales, and Polar Bears.
Alaska does have all that, and it is a vast land, however,
summer does come to some parts of the country and it
is said the people of Alaska are warm and welcoming.

Alaska was first discovered by a Cossack (a special Russian
military group who were known to be fierce fighters) named
Mikhail Gvozdev who sailed the Bering Sea to King Island
where they were greeted by an Alaskan Native when he/she
approached their ship by kayak. His voyage represents the
first Russian contact with the American mainland as well as
with the Alaskan people.Over the next 100 years the Russians
explored the Alaskan territories and learned a much about
the land as well as the Native people, animals, plants and
climate of this strange and wonderful land. There were over
sixty voyages across the Bering Strait to Alaska and they
considered this country the Russia America before it was
finally sold for $2.7 million to the United States in 1867.

In 1890 the discovery of gold in Canada's Klondike brought
people to Alaska in droves and between 1890 and 1900, the
population of Alaska doubled to 63,000 people. Many
came here to strike it rich and then go back from where they
came. Many stayed however, and by 1910 the census
report counted 64,356 living in Alaska. The gold rush peaked
during the 1900's and an estimated $22. million dollars in
gold was had by all. The gold finally ran out in 1966, but
over $220 million dollars in gold had been panned over
the years.

People visit Alaska today because some of the most beautiful
country one will ever see throughout the entire world is
in Alaska. It's still a vast land with some parts of the
country still not yet discovered. The wildlife is abundant
there and you will see Grizzly, (from a good distance
please), as well and elk and reindeer. There is no other
place quite like Alaska.

The people who visit Alaska today say it's an unforgettable
journey and encourage anyone to go at least once in
their lifetime. It is a great place to take the family and
the kids will have an experience to last a lifetime. There
is much to do when visiting Alaska from one day cruises
to seeing some of the most magnificent glaciers in Glacier
Bay. The mountains are beautiful for camping and of
course the wildlife is something to write home about.

When trying to decide on your next family vacation, you
might think about going to Alaska. A trip there is
educational, providing your kids with an experience that
will be cherished for life. During the day, you can take
an ocean day cruise, which is available in many areas of
Alaska. Some of the destinations to enjoy include Prince
William Sound, Glacier Bay, and Kenai Fjords. If you want
to see the dramatic mountain scenery, tidewater glaciers,
and wildlife, this type of opportunity is highly
recommended.
