Guidelines for Safe Traveling

While you are traveling out of town, remember that anything
unpleasant could crop up. So it's a good idea to be prepared
for things like crime, an illness, or some kind of loss to
your property.

When planning to go out of the country, find out if there
are immunizations that are required to enter that country.
You will get this information from the country's health
department. Make sure you take all the mandatory
requirements as well as the optional recommendations of the
department seriously. Ask your doctor to help you take these
immunizations well in time, because some of them might have
side effects.

Before you head out, check with your health insurer to
confirm what you are covered for when out of town. You might
have to shell out a bit more so you are insured in a foreign
country, but it will be worth it! so be sure to get the
extra cover.

When it comes to health abroad, it is best to keep away
from tap water when you're abroad like most people do. For
the same reason, if you are served with tepid meals, ask
that they heated through thoroughly. And try not to go for
the raw or semi-raw foods, or those not cooked a hundred per
cent for fear they might contain bacteria?including
guacamole and salsa dips, unless of course they are fresh,
made when you order them.

In spite of all your precautions, you might experience food
poisoning in a foreign country. In that case, make sure you
drink lots of water and take some anti-diarrhea medications.
However, it's best to consult a local hospital if your
problem persists.

You need to safeguard yourself against crime while
traveling. Try not to carry too much cash with you, and
avoid attracting attention by displaying your wealth. Do not
bring all of your expensive clothing and jewelry to wear.
It's better to wear travel clothes and remain low key so
that thieves don't get interested in you.

While traveling, it's best to bring traveler's checks
instead of large amounts of cash. Traveler's checks are
much safer because they cannot be cashed unless verified by
two signatories. And, in the eventuality of their loss, they
can be easily replaced with a phone call to the original
dispenser.

To safeguard against loss, you should ensure that your
insurance policies cover your valuables. If not, you should
think of purchasing a little policy for your trip. This can
cover your valuables including the car that you drive or
souvenirs that you buy.

With a little planning your trip can be as safe as going to
anywhere in your home town.
